| If you have a desire to help a young adult in a difficult circumstance learn new skills, explore a creative passion, and change his or her perspectives and opportunities, HMA can offer a tremendous amount of inspiring opportunities: Hollywood Media Arts (HMA) is currently seeking professional artists and educators to teach and mentor our students in the areas of Entertainment Arts (acting, creative writing, filmmaking, drawing/animation), Urban Arts (fashion design, make-up, photography), Interactive Arts (graphic design, video game design), and Music (electronic, guitar, synthesizers, drum circle, music recording). In addition, we are seeking to fill a small number of paid positions in our Foundation curriculum which provides a general education in art, art theory and criticism, critical thinking, and writing. For the last two years, we have been the only art education academy in the city that works with at-risk young adults by offering them free classes taught by established creative professionals. Our students are at-risk young adults ages 18-25. They are predominately homeless and living in local shelters while pursuing employment and education in order to change their life circumstances and professional options. We connect them with teachers, volunteers, and mentors who have experience and expertise in one of our commercial art disciplines and support them in developing positive habits, taking creative risks, and learning new ways of thinking and creative problem-solving. In general, our students are incredibly creative individuals who simply need education, mentorship, and guidance from people who care. Through participating in our programs students can also gain access to work-based mentorships and internships that can dramatically alter their view of themselves and commitment to a different path in life. We operate our own facility in Hollywood near the corner of Hollywood Blvd. and Wilcox Ave. and teach classes Monday thru Saturday in the afternoons and evenings. Ad provided by Idealist.org |
