Job Duties:

Alongwith the other Diem RNs in the Blood and Platelet Center participate in the operation of the Blood and Platelet Center. Major duties include: 1) Perform AUTOMATED Donor Phlebotomy for red cells and platelets at Center and Blood Mobiles. 2) Perform Donor Histories at Center and on Blood Mobiles. 3) Assist in all job duties performed at the Center and on Blood Mobiles as needed. 4) Maintain various extensive, detailed, and accurate Blood and Platelet Center donor and equipment records. 5) Perform quality control procedures and equipment preventive maintenance duties. 6) Perform other duties as required in the Transfusion Service and other duties as assigned by supervisor.


Job Qualifications:

Current california RN License and Apheresis experience required. Excellent whole blood phlebotomy skills required. Knowledge of infection control procedures and sterile technique required. Skill in organizing donor records and units for processing. Demonstrated working knowledge of medical terminology. Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly using English words and numbers on lab paperwork in order to properly process donors. Skill in writing to maintain accurate records. Ability to utilize PC computers is required. Ability to work rapidly and accurately with high attention to detail. Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments. Must be highly flexible with ability to work weekends, holidays and work overtime/change shifts as needed by the Division of Transfusion Medicine.
