In these workshops we will work with improvisational techniques and processes to build scenes and monologues. We will develop, flesh-out and expand relationships between characters. We will create an improvised show from the work that happens in the workshops – and then perform it in front of an audience at The Avery Schreiber Theatre. This course allows you to learn and develop your foundation in improvisational work giving you the tools to grow in your performances whether improvised or scripted. Ron Wilson has been improvising since he began his career as an original member of The Groundlings. Wilson’s comedic talents have been featured throughout film and television. He has appeared alongside legends such as Richard Pryor and Merv Griffin. As a director, Wilson’s production of the original stage comedy, A Night in Ellsinore received critical acclaim with its west coast premier. Wilson is also responsible for the creation of Pasadena City College’s first improvisational and standup comedy courses.


Gary Austin is the founder and original director of the Groundlings. He is currently Creative Director of all courses and shows for Gary Austin Workshops. He began his professional career as a member of San Francisco’s famed improv company, The Committee, where he worked with Second City’s Del Close. His influence on improvisation is prolific and he continues to be one of its most innovative forces by developing new groundbreaking methods and techniques. He currently directs his improvisational performance groups, “Austin’s Dog Bread” and “Austin’s Cat Milk,” in Los Angeles, , and he teaches workshops and develops shows across the United States.  Gary is available for private coaching.
