Job Duties:
UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (JCCC) seeks a Business Office Manager. The JCCC is a multidisciplinary matrix organization at UCLA, an integral member of a network of thirty-six comprehensive cancer centers throughout the United States that are mandated by Federal legislation and supported by the National Cancer Institute. The Business Office Manager reports to the Deputy Director for Administration and Finance. S/he also serves in an advisory capacity to the Cancer Center senior leaders and external organizations and institutions, and is the primary liaison between the Cancer Center and other UCLA units and external agencies in all matters concerning the Center’s administrative affairs. This position has direct responsibility for the annual budget process, short and long term financial planning and oversight of the allocation of State, grant, discretionary/philanthropic, and clinical trials revenue, as well as contract and grant administration, purchasing and material management, staff personnel management, and general administrative functions. S/he establishes fiscal policy and guidelines, sets budgetary targets for programs and shared resources, negotiates changes in those targets, and establishes budgetary implementation, monitoring, and control system targets.
Job Qualifications:
A broad-based management background in a large institutional environment, strong leadership ability, excellent financial management skills, comprehension of research administration, human resources policies and procedures, and outstanding written/verbal communication skills in order to communicate effectively with a range of internal and external contacts. Skills and knowledge include the ability to complete a heavy workload within established deadlines; organizational skills in setting priorities and goals for the JCCC business affairs office. Superior oral and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff. Preparation of funding reports. Knowledge of Federal, State, and University regulations governing grants. Experience with University human resources systems and guidelines preferred. Skill in interpreting and comprehending new regulations; skill in handling sensitive situations with discretion; and the ability to perform management and supervisory duties with frequent interruptions.
